I have nothing to say in my defense. But I must be crazy. See for yourself:

Simply Cool! I am sure there will soon be "dudes" that make all sorts of crazy stuff based on these ideas - kind of a "compiz for the dialog box"

I have been following your last blogs and those effects might indeed be interesting, especially if they can add a shiny look to our beloved desktop with few added cpu cycles.

In my opinion, reflective icons on panel like for example on the iphone touch might look indeed very good. At least for a panel placed at screen bottom, if not the reflection would have to be aware of the panel orientation.
On those icons, an animation on click like the one you are showing might look very good too.

I even wonder if one could create zoom effects on mouse over for example

Anyway, these are very good examples what could be done with the given technique. Now it's up to the usability experts to decide what is really useful - and up to the masses to decide what is so cool that it simply has to be there (like the compiz cube - cool, but useless

For the KTitleWidget this simply works, could you make the "floor" bigger so that the entire content of the widget is reflected just to see what it would look like?

I tried that, but then the KTitleWidget gets too big and it looks even more out of place.

soo does this have to be coded into each app, or can it be a type of "theme"? or at least a overall config option...

Depends. E.g. I changed KTitleWidget and KDialog in kdelibs. Now all KDE 4 apps are more shiny. If this would go into svn it sure would get a config option to disable it.

Can this be applied through QT style sheets, if so that would be ideal.

No. You'd need to patch Qt quite a bit to do that.

What happens with Toggle-Buttons? Do they stay down?

I did not write a full-featured class. But I forgot to show that the buttons are still fully interactive when transformed. So yeah, a button that fell over can still be clicked and still shows the glow on mouse-over.

Definitely cool. I'd be nice to see this utilized as a way to provide a little more feedback to the user when a button is pressed.

As a semi-related side note. I really like the double flash that menu items do when they are clicked or you press their hotkey. Its not overwhelming, but provides solid feedback to the user.

I like it.

Just a few ideas. Maybe make the buttons in such a way that users can easily customize effects and create own. That way we'll have lots of cool stuff. I'm not a programmer so I wouldn't be sure what the best idea of that will be. Nice work. Keep it up! (i did not read anything else on this page btw, will come back later)
